Summary

“The Fly” by Katherine Mansfield starts with Mr Woodifield, who is in his former boss’ office and they are having a casual conversation about the redecoration of the office. Mr Woodifield is rather old and has retired due to a stroke, being allowed by his family to visit the city only on Tuesdays.

The boss is rather proud of his remodelled office, presenting it in detail to the old man. At one point, Mr Woodifield tries to remember what he had wanted to tell the boss. The boss serves him whisky and the man recalls that he wanted to tell him about his daughters’ trip to Belgium, where they have visited the grave of Reggie (probably his son) and also found the grave of the boss’ boy. The boss does not have a visible reaction to what Woodifield...
