Even if “Eve of Destruction” was released in 1965, the current situation of the world makes the song very relevant today as well. An important issue which dominates our world is the War in Syria. Since 2014, the US has become involved in the war. Initially, the involvement of the US was peaceful but soon became more violent. Many states still praise the US involvement in the war, while many of the US citizens oppose it, as they deem in unjustifiable both in terms of expenses and victims. Since many of the current images from the War in Syria resemble those presented in the poem, we can say that the text of “Eve of Destruction” is very much relevant today as it was back in 1965.
