Summary

“Désirée’s Baby” takes place in Louisiana on L'Abri, an estate owned by Armand Aubigny. Madame Valmondé goes to visit Désirée after she had given birth to a child. Désirée was an orphan of unknown origins, found by Mr. Valmondé and raised by him and his wife. She had recently married Armand, the owner of a neighboring estate.

When Mrs. Valmondésees the child, she is surprised by the way he looks, but finds Désirée happy, due to her husband's change of attitude. Since the baby was born Armand, had grown softer and kinder, both with Désirée and the slaves.

But, three months after the baby was born, Armand changed his attitude again. He started avoiding both the mother and child. One day, as Désirée looked at her child and a creole boy, she real...
