Narrator and point of view

The short story “Departure Time” by Tessa Green is a third-person narration following the point of view of one of the characters, Samantha.

The narrator, who is outside the action, follows Samantha’s thoughts and actions and presents everything from the woman’s perspective: “Out of the carriage window she sees orange trees like lollipops dotted with fruit. After five years she still can’t believe they’re real.” (ll. 14-15)

Confined to Samantha’s perspective, the narrator has limited knowledge on the events and the other characters.
