Summary

“Call If You Need Me” by Raymond Carver presents the story of Dan and Nancy, two spouses who have both committed adultery, and are on the verge of getting a divorce.

Their teenage son, Richard, is sent to spend the summer with his grandmother so that his parents have a chance to be alone and try to solve their problems. They arrange to let their house for the summer to a young couple while they move to a place called Eureka.

Both Dan and Nancy know about the other’s affairs with different partners. Dan has a mistress called Susan, who envies Nancy and her life. Nancy is having an affair with one of her husband’s colleagues. In an attempt to solve their problems, both Dan and Nancy agree to stop all communication with others and focus on themselves while at the house in Eureka.
