When analyzing a short story like “A Pair of Silk Stockings” by Kate Chopin, it is important also to look at the language employed by the author, as it can deepen your understanding of the text. While the language of the text can be considered quite simple for the time it was published, some words such as “hectic blotches” or “gaudy woman” may strike the modern reader as old-fashioned.
