Langston Hughes’s short story “Autumn Evening” can be considered an example of modernist literature.

Works with the same theme or by the same author

The short story “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemmingway is also built around the iceberg theory. In the story, a man and a girl nicknamed Jig are having an intense conversation, although the subject is never explicitly mentioned. Just as in Langston Hughes’ short story, in “Hills like White Elephants” the reader is left to infer the true significance of the story.

Langston Hughes is also the author of the short story “One Friday Morning”. In the story, the main character, Nancy Lee Johnson is denied an arts scholarship because she is black. The short story tackles a different theme than “Early Autumn”, as it focuses on social issues such as discrimination and prejudice.…
