Current issues

Illegal emigration from Mexico to the US happened throughout the 1990s and 2000s and continues today. This has created a number of challenges in American society. Many people from older generations of illegal immigrants never became legal residents of the US, but they formed families in America and had children there.

This resulted in a whole young generation of people who are born to illegal immigrants but have lived all their lives in the US. These young people are also undocumented. To solve this issue, US President Barack Obama issued an executive order in 2012 which protected undocumented children from deportation for two years. President Obama also supported the idea of finding ways to integrate illegal immigrants into the US and creating policies that will help them become legal residents. However, he was often opposed by the US Congress in such initiatives.
