Summary

The poem “Colonization in Reverse” by Louise Bennett-Coverley presents the speaker as she tells miss Mattie the joyful news that Jamaica is colonizing England in reverse. She says Jamaicans from all over the country and of all ages are leaving for England by the hundreds and thousands, and their plan is to get a good job and to settle in the new country. The people who do not like to travel are showing their loyalty to those who are leaving by opening agencies which offer cheap travel fares to England. Therefore, week after week, Jamaicans are leaving the country in large numbers to immigrate to England.
