Intention

Barack Obama’s inaugural address from 2009 focuses on the topic of restoring responsibility in American society, along with other American values which Obama claims are needed to overcome issues like wars and international conflicts, the economic crisis, the expensive healthcare system, and the weak educational system.

Barack Obama’s message with the speech is that American society needs to return to the values that made America a great power to face the challenges of the present: “…we, the people, have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears and true to our founding documents. So it has been; so it must be with this generation of Americans.” (ll. 19-24)
