To have a better view of Adichie’s literary style, we recommend the short story “Imitation”. Here, Adichie tells the story of a Nigerian woman who lives with her family in the US and finds out that her husband has a mistress in Nigeria, where he often travels for work. This discovery makes the woman realize that her marriage is only an imitation of what a marriage should be like. The story is also an example of post-colonial literature.

We recommend “Cell One” by Adichie, a story that focuses on a young man named Nnamabia who steals from his family. He is arrested two years after the incident when the authorities believe he is a member of a cult. The story explores the theme of injustice and coming of age.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Commencement Address at Wellesley College further explores the writer’s interests. Here, she mainly promotes feminism and gender equality. We recommend you also read Adichie’s TED talk “The danger of a single story”, where she discusses the issue of cultural ignorance. Some of the issues presented in her TED talk are also discussed in Ifemelu’s blog posts in Americanah. …

Lastly, the theme of racism is explored by Langston Hughes in the poem “The Ballad of the Landlord”. The poem presents a conflict between a black tenant and a white landlord, with the former being forced to suffer the injustices accepted and perpetuated by a system ruled by white people.…
