Structure

The excerpt from the novel Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has a non-traditional structure. The narrative takes the form of two blog posts written by Ifemelu, a Nigerian young woman who attends university in the US. 

The titles of both blog posts help readers identify the people that Ifemelu targets. For example, the first blog post is titled “To My Fellow Non-American Blacks”, which suggests that she mainly targets black immigrants in the United States. The second blog post is titled “Fri...
