Summary

The short story “A Gap of Sky” by Anna Hope begins with 19-year-old Ellie waking up alone in her bed on a Monday. Ellie feels confused, tired, and ill. She gets up briefly before going back to bed. When she rises again, she realizes it is afternoon and remembers she has an essay due for the next morning.

Ellie remembers that the night before, she went to a club with some friends, after which she got drunk and used drugs. She remembers waking up in another house and eventually returning home in the morning. In an attempt to figure out how she is going to write and hand in her essay on time, Ellie first takes some cocaine. She remembers that her printer does not have ink, and she decides to go and buy some.
