Presentation of the topic
Food waste is defined as food that is thrown away without being eaten. There are multiple causes of food waste and examples of waste can be identified in the processes of harvesting, storage, transportation and consumption. Food is wasted because of a lack of infrastructure, meaning that food can’t be processed fast enough to stop it being wasted. Also, consumers often throw away edible food because they don’t understand food expiry dates. In a paradoxical situation, developed countries waste huge quantities of food while some people in undeveloped countries struggle to find enough to eat. Despite the troubling statistics, there is still hope when it comes to reducing food waste through a variety of ways.
