The film We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) directed by Lynn Ramsay mainly focuses on the relationship between the main character, Eva, and her son, Kevin. One message that the film puts forward is that the bond between a parent and child is extremely significant and it is always important to nurture this bond. In the film, Eva struggles with motherhood which places many limitations on her life, especially as Kevin is a difficult child, and this ends up affecting her ability to bond with Kevin. In return, the lack of love and affection Kevin receives from his mother also affects him and causes him to rebel and ignore any attempts at building a relationship.
