Summary

The short story “My Mother, the Crazy African” by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is about Ralindu, a Nigerian girl who moved to Philadelphia with her parents. Ralindu, who calls herself Lin, is frustrated and ashamed of her Nigerian heritage and tries to act American. This is why she talks to her family in English instead of Igbo and hides the fact that she is from Nigeria. 

Lin is particularly ashamed of her mother, who does not wish to let go of her Nigerian roots to adapt to America and constantly ridicules her new country.
