Blanche Ingram

Outer characterization

Blanche Ingram is a beautiful twenty-five-year-old socialite in the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. She comes from a rich and distinguished family, but her father’s estates were all passed down to her older brother, so she and her sister, Mary Ingram, do not have very large fortunes.

She is described as a tall woman with a “fine bust, sloping shoulders; long graceful neck: olive complexion, dark and clear; noble features” (Chapter 16, 65%). She has large and brilliant black eyes and “a fine head of hair; raven-black and so becomingly arranged: a crown of thick plaits behind, and in front the longest, glossiest curls” (Chapter 16, 65%). She often dresses in white clothes.
