Summary

The short story “Getting Somewhere” by Susan Isaacs begins with a woman named Karen, who is looking for a house with her husband Jeffrey. The real estate agent takes them to see an expensive house in Florida. Karen, amazed by the luxurious estate, remembers an event that took place fifteen years before.

Back then, as she drove across the Causeway, Karen was surprised by a commotion on the road. Terrified black people emerged from the water and ran across the road.
