Outlines

The three texts present different opinions related to the topic of foreign language learning in Britain. The authors have different views and opinions on the subjects.

One author believes that it is imperative for British people to accept the benefits of learning foreign languages. The second author states that British people should be more than happy that other people learn their language. Finally, the third author believes that the discussion should gain new dimensions and that it should be analysed through multiple points of view.

Why do we continue to isolate ourselves by only speaking English?

The first text, written by Will Hutton, was published on the website of The Observer in 2012.

Hutton describe the necessity of British people making efforts to learn a new language, as it is closely related to the economic development of the country.

Hutton compares Britain to America and believes that British people should not act like Americans, who benefit from living in a country which is a political world power dominating the world in many areas.
