Ella is an important character in the film East is East directed by Damien O'Donnell. She is George’s wife and the mother of his seven children. She has been married to George for 25 years when the events in the film take place. 

Ella appears to be a friendly and kind person. She is good friends with Annie, who helps her in the shop. When they visit friends in Bradford, she chats with Helen, and comforts her when she cries. Ella empathizes with Helen, who misses her daughter, Shareen, because she also misses Nazir. Both Shareen and Nazir, are away from their families because of their fathers’ single-minded decisions. Therefore, Ella can relate to Helen. 

Ella is also sociable and good-natured while doing her job. She gives roses and shamrocks to the priest for the Christian celebrations, even if she does not participate in them. She chats with customers and maintains a cheerful and polite appearance, despite her personal concerns. This shows that she is professional.

Ella has a sense of humor, which she often uses to her advantage, especially in her interactions with George. For instance, when he threatens her that he will bring his first wife to England, she replies that it will be difficult for her to sell in the shop while dressed in a bed sheet.
