The speaker is Barack Obama, who delivered his victory speech when he was reelected as US President in 2012.

Obama had been a US senator between 2005 and 2008 and had served his first term between 2009 and 2012 as the first African-American US President.

The speech followed the 2012 presidential elections when American voters had to choose between Republican Mitt Romney and Democrat Barack Obama.

The US Democratic Party that Obama represented is a historical, political party promoting progressive policies and a social welfare state. Such orientation is also noticeable in Obama’s speech.
