Shopping is an activity we all engage in. The things we can buy nowadays range from food to clothes, to technology and services. Furthermore, the ways we shop have also diversified with the advancing of the internet.

Positive aspects

  • Shopping can function as a therapy for those in a bad mood or as a reward (text 3: “Feeling sad? Go shopping because it really does make you happier, say psychologists” by the Daily Mail Reporter)
  • Material things are useful as long as they serve a purpose and they do not overcrowd (text 1: “Living With Less. A Lot Less” by Graham Hill)

Negative aspects

  • Shopping can become stressful and, done constantly, it decreases satisfaction (text 1)
  • Shopping costs you financial resources and can lead to overspending (text 2)
  • Shopping negatively affects the environment; the more we shop, the more resources are used and the more we encourage cheap labour overseas (text 1)
