Framing

The short film “The English Teacher” by Blake Ridder uses several long shots to give viewers a sense of Robert’s loneliness. For example, a long shot is used when Robert is shown eating a sandwich alone on a bench, with a tree behind him (04:09-04:22). Robert is the only person in this scene, which helps emphasize his loneliness and sadness.

Another long shot is used at the end after Robert is unable to reach Jin (11:37-12:10). The scene also reflects Robert’s loneliness, especially after losing Jin, who claimed that he was Robert’s friend.
