Conflict

There are several important conflicts in the short story “The Castle” by Chloë Heuch. 

The main conflict can be considered to be between the narrator and Osian. Apparently, before the divorce, the narrator got on well with her twelve-year-old son, and Osian was engaging and interested in many things. However, after the narrator’s divorce from his father, Osian became withdrawn and moody.

Throughout their visit to the castle, the narrator tries to engage Osian several times. However, Osian refuses and continues to shut his mother out, shrugging away whenever she tries to comfort him...
