Comment on Eugene and Jason

In this section, we offer some suggestions on how you might comment on the similarities and differences between the two boys, Eugene and Jason.

Note that these characters are presented from the narrator’s point of view. 

In the narrator’s opinion, Jason and Eugene are very different, even though they are best friends and the same age: “Eugene Kessler was supposed to be my brother’s best friend, but he and I actually had a lot more in common”. (ll. 1-2)

Both boys are intelligent and achieved, since they are the only ones from Franconia ever to get into the ivy league university, Harvard: “…he and my brother had done what no one in our town have ever managed before and had gotten into Harvard…” (ll. 24-25)
