Forms of appeal

There are three main forms of appeal: Pathos is the appeal to the readers’ emotions. Logos is the appeal to the readers’ deductive reasoning. Ethos is the appeal to credibility and authority. In the following we will give you example of how Tom Law uses ethos and pathos in his article "Cachau Bant: Mind Your Language".

Ethos

Tom Law employs ethos when he uses his own example as a “victim” of the English language. As a child in Wales, Law was denied learning and using his native language on an everyday basis. Instead, he was obliged to see English as his primary language, and he learned a bit of Welsh only in secondary school:
