Summary
“The Sentry” by Téa Obreht tells the story of Bojan, who is ten years old when his father brings home a sentry dog named Kaiser. Before he sees the dog, Bojan is excited, hoping to find a companion in Kaiser. He goes to the library with Mrs Senka, the housekeeper who takes care of him, to learn about the mastiff breed.
However, the mastiff turns out to be very aggressive, scaring people in the neighbourhood and even killing the local dogs and cats he catches. For about a year, Bojan is scared whenever the dog is around. At the same time, he envies the relationship his father has with the dog, as the dog is always obedient to his father.
