Title

The title of the story, “The Lunar Coast” refers to the main setting of the events, which take place in a fishing village on a dangerous stretch of coast which resembles a lunar (moon-like) landscape. This is where the main characters, Alex and Lee grow up: “ALEX AND I had grown up on the lunar coast. It was a treacherous northern stretch of coastline…” (ll. 6-7)

The name “the lunar coast” is intriguing. We soon learn that the word is applied to the coastline because it is dangerous, rugged, and apparently inhospitable - it is a dangerous place to live and work. Also, the tide on the coast is controlled by the moon and its coming and going impacts the life of the characters. The name also suggests that the location is remote.
