Marjorie

Marjorie appears in the short story “The End of Something” by Ernest Hemingway. Her outer characterization is not mentioned in the story, except for the fact that she is Nick’s girlfriend. Because of this, we can assume she is probably the same age.

Marjorie’s inner characterization shows that her personality is in contrast with Nick’s. Marjorie is romantic, and she thinks love is fun (l. 171). When she notices the ruins of the mill, she associates it with a castle (l. 37). She also loves to spend time with Nick (l. 45).
