Sometimes, slum tours can risk becoming only a source of entertainment for the people who visit poor neighbourhoods. They ignore the tragic conditions the people in poor communities live in, and they focus on what they cannot see in their daily lives. However, there are times when slum tours can prove to be beneficial both for the community and for the tourists. The visitors have the opportunity to learn about a culture and the community can benefit from donations or other forms of help.
