Rhythm and rhyme
“The Real White Man’s Burden” by Ernest Howard Crosby follows a more or less traditional rhythm and rhyme scheme, once again imitating the style in the original poem, “The White Man’s Burden”.
The rhythm is iambic, commonly used with all hymns. Every second syllable is stressed. Just like in Kipling’s poem, it is very jingly, suggesting that the text could be sang.
The rhyme is broken, or imperfect. Some lines have alternate rhymes while others have no rhyme at all:
