Summary

“Saving Mr Ugwu” by Lin Anderson tells us the story of Mr Ugwu, who lives in the African bush with his family. He was sent there by his company and moved despite his wife’s complaints. On a Saturday morning, Mr Ugwu wakes up waiting for the rain. He gets dressed to go to work where he has to deliver the envelopes with the workers’ wages. Mr Ugwu is worried that the workers will be upset because their wages are smaller than usual due to a lack of productivity. The kitchen boy makes him breakfast and he thinks about his situation. He believes the local people resent him because he is from a different Nigerian ethnic group, and he is consequently nervous about going to work.

When he leaves his house, he notices his neighbour’s monkey is restles...
