“The Dead Zone: Detroit Becomes Urban Wasteland”
The video was published in 2013 on the CBN News website, and was documented by Chuck Holton, a CBN News reporter. The news clip contains interviews with Detroit citizens and which presents the current state of the city.
The news clip shows how almost the entire city of Detroit looks devastated and abandoned, just like a wasteland or a scene from a zombie movie. The author points to an increased crime rate, and a lack of schools, hospitals, and public services. Many people choose to leave Detroit while others, who do not have the means, are bound to remain in a city where crime and unemployment are extremely high.
Furthermore, many Detroit citizens are illiterate, and cuts have been made in city services, including the police. The reporter also hints at the police officers’ inability to protect a city where crime flourishes day by day. The government has bailed out a number of private companies based in Detroit, but this hasn’t helped the city to improve. Some private charities organize themselves to solve what the government could not.
