Reflect on other poems by William Wordsworth that deal with the topic of man and nature. Two important examples are “The Tables Turned” (Wider Contexts, p. 204) and “Composed upon Westminster Bridge” (Wider Contexts, p. 217). In those poems, the poet views nature as a teacher and he is, again, in a state of awe.

Why do you think Wordsworth placed such a strong emphasis on nature’s influence on humans in his poems? Take into the account that rustic, natural landscapes were common themes of poems in the Romantic Age. They were a way of escaping a distressful reality and finding joy in simple things.
