Composition
‘Composition’ refers to the way the plot of a movie is organised in scenes. “We’ve All Been There” is structured in seemingly unrelated scenes which overlap until we discover the relationship between the characters at the end.
The first scene shows a woman (Joan) having a flat tire and a man in a truck approaching her. The second scene shows a pregnant waitress (Jess) asking her supervisor for more work hours or an advance. The third scene jumps to later in the evening when the woman from the first scene comes into the diner and orders food from the waitress in the second scene. Then, the story combines scenes from the diner between Joan and Jess with Joan’s flashbacks about the way the man in the truck, Matt, fixed her tire without taking any money.
