Summary

The short story “Waiting for Spring” by Tamara Jones tells the story of William, a homeless man.

William and his friend Albert sit on a bench in a park, drinking together and complaining about the noise made by the playing children. Albert asks William why he comes to the park so often and William tells him he is waiting for spring to come. The homeless men see a young couple who avoid looking at them as they walk by, and the two start joking about their homelessness.

The next day, William comes back to the park alone. He has been coming to the park for over a month looking for any sign of spring. He thinks about the homeless people he knows who have died during the winter.
