Characters

The main characters in the short story “Uncle Dougie’s Suitcase” by Alastair Chisholm are Uncle Dougie and Douglas. The two of them appear to have a close relationship. They even share the same name. A conflict arises between them when Douglas looks through Uncle Dougie’s suitcase without his permission.

The other characters in the story are Douglas’s parents and Charlie Hannion. Douglas’s mother appears to like Uncle Dougie, even though she pretends not to. She is embarrassed at Douglas looking through Uncle Dougie’s things, and begins to scold him. Charlie Hannion is a character in Uncle Dougie’s story. His actions mirror that of Douglas, and his fate is supposed to scare Douglas into good behavior.
