Although published in 1969, the short story “Tony’s Story” by Leslie Mamon Silko is still relevant in today’s society. According to the Institute of Race Relations, between 2014 and 2019, police in the United States killed 6557 people, with the rate increasing from year to year. 

Discrimination against Native Americans still exists even in the 21st century. Although businesses and institutions are required to adopt measures to prevent discrimination, Native Americans still face prejudice, mistreatment, and inequality in society. Even when receiving employment, their position is not secure.
