Boo Radley

Boo Radley is a secondary character of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. His real name is Arthur Radley. He is the Finches’ mysterious neighbor who is the subject of the town’s gossip, and the children are intrigued but scared by him and try to get him to come out of his house. Boo lives in his house together with his brother. It is hinted that he had some kind of mental breakdown in the past and that he was in trouble with the law and spent time in a mental institution. His isolation has made him shy, as he has trouble interacting with others – something that we see at the end.

Despite the negative rumors about him, Boo Radley shows he is a kind individual who often watches Jem and Scout and is amused by their games (p. 56). He is always nice to the two kids and leaves them gifts inside a tree trunk on his property, mends Jem’s trousers, and offers Scout a blanket during the neighbor...
