Summary

In the novel The Trial by Frantz Kafka, Josef K., the senior accountant of a bank, is declared arrested by the guards Willem and Franz without any reason on the morning of his 30th birthday. Even the supervisor who is present cannot explain what is happening. However, K. does not have to go to prison and is allowed to go about his normal life and work. In the evening of the same day, K. apologizes to his landlady, Mrs. Grubach, for the inconvenience and to Fräulein Bürstner, a tenant of Mrs. Grubach's, for the misappropriation of her room, because the conversation with the warden took place there. 

A few days later, K. is summoned to the first hearing session. In order not to disrupt K.'s normal life, the sessions take place on Sundays. K. goes to the court. However, he has not been told the exact room, so he searches the entire building for the right hall and is unable to find it.
