Summary

“The Sea in Me by Krishan Coupland begins with the narrator stating that she sometimes submerges her head in the bath and waits for the scars on her neck to open up. However, nothing happens. At the pool, the narrator can stay underwater for longer but only when her mother isn’t there.

She likes it best when she is the last one at the pool. Martin, a lifeguard who likes her, always lets her do one more length in the pool.

The narrator is no longer a virgin, but her mother does not know this and wants her to focus on her career.
