Charlie’s sister

In Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Charlie frequently refers to his relationship with his sister, who is a high school senior like Patrick and Sam. She is intelligent and hardworking, finishing second in her class. Early in the novel, Charlie is upset because he sees his sister’s boyfriend hitting her (p. 13). Charlie tells his teacher, who tells Charlie’s parents, who forbid his sister from seeing her boyfriend. Charlie’s sister then tells Charlie she hates him (p. 28). 

However, their relationship improves later in the novel. The sister, who has been seeing her boyfriend in secret, gets pregnant. When Charlie tries to comfort her, she initially rejects him, but then: “my sister started hugging me. She didn’t say anything. She just hugged me tight and wouldn’t let go.
