Khushwant Singh’s short story “The Mark of Vishnu” could be considered an example of postcolonial literature.

Postcolonial literature is literature written in countries which used to be former colonies. Unlike colonial literature, which generally takes on a Western perspective, postcolonial literature is generally written from the perspective of native characters and focuses on their issues. Postcolonial literature also deals with the culture and identity of former colonies. “The Mark of Vishnu” mentions many elements of Indian culture, such as Gunga Ram’s superstitions.
