Sender and receiver

Here we look at the sender and receiver of the text "The man who fell to earth".

Sender

The senders of the text are two journalists, Esther Addley and Rory McCarthy. The medium is the British newspaper, The Guardian. Both the senders and the medium help to make the text credible and reliable.

The fact that Esther Addley is a senior reporter on The Guardian, implies that she has experience with writing news reports and analysis. The fact that Rory McCarthy is a correspondent in Jerusalem implies that he was closer to Ayaz’s country and in a good position to research his background and collect information from his place of departure.

Receiver

The general receivers of the text are the readers of the British newspaper, The Guardian. Those with access to the printed version are people living in the UK. However, because the article is also available online, all English-speaking readers are potential receivers.

According to statistics, the newspaper's readers are, in general, on the mainstream left of British political opinion. This means that they are inclined to support the welfare-state, social policies, and are concerned with issues and polices regarding the middle and lower classes.
