Angela

Angela is one of the characters of the story “The Legacy” by Virginia Woolf. She is Gilbert’s late wife who had an affair and then committed suicide.

Angela is characterized in reference to her status as a politician’s wife and as a beautiful woman. However, she appears to be an intelligent woman who wishes to be independent: “She had told him that she felt so idle, so useless. She wished to have some work of her own.” This shows that Angela is not content to be a housewife and wishes to find fulfillment through work and helping others.
