Positive and welcoming

Augustus’ parents are also characters worth mentioning from the novel The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Augustus' parents, Cindy and Mark Waters, are portrayed as positive thinkers. When Hazel visits Augustus' house for the first time, she immediately notices the many words of encouragement in the Waters' home: "A wooden plaque in the entryway was engraved in cursive with the words 'Home Is Where the Heart Is', and the entire house turned out to be festooned in such observations" (Chapter 2, 25%). According to Augustus, his parents call these sayings "encouragements" (Chapter 2, 25%).
