Chapter 41

Christopher decides he wants to find out who killed Wellington, the dog, but Ed gets angry and tells him to keep his nose out of other people’s business. Christopher doesn’t understand. When he comes downstairs later, his father is crying. 

Chapter 43

Christopher reveals that his mother Judy has been dead for two years. He recalls how his father told him his mother was in hospital with a heart problem.
