Summary

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time opens with the narrator, Christopher Boone, finding a dog which has been killed with a pitchfork. Christopher is a 15-year-old boy who has behavioral problems and struggles to relate to other people. He is very good at math and he comes up with various systems to help him understand the world. 

The dog, Wellington, belonged to Christopher’s neighbor Mrs Shears. She calls the police and Christopher is arrested, but later let off with a caution. Christopher enjoys mystery novels so he decides to investigate who killed Wellington and to write a book about what he discovers. He explains that he is encouraged to write this book by his teacher Siobhan, and he decides that the prime suspect for the crime is Mrs Shears’ ex-husband.
