Setting

The short story “The Cherry Tree” by Lisa Blower takes place during summer (ll. 4-5). The story seems to take place in an English village or small town, on a street where people seem to be connected to each other, as we can tell at the end, when a crowd of people gathers in front of Thea’s house. Thea’s life seems to be limited to that street, as the only two locations that are mentioned are her house and the corner store, where she goes every week and always buys the same things. The cherry tree is an important part of the physical setting, as its roots are in Roxanne’s garden, but the branches with the cherries are in Thea’s garden.
