Analysis

The analysis of the short story “The Cherry Tree” by Lisa Blower shows that it follows a linear plot structure. The story takes place during a single day, but there are some references to the past and future.

The main character in the story is Thea. She is an old woman who lives alone and cannot have children. She is in conflict with Roxanne and her son, Toby.

The setting is an English-speaking country. Most of the story takes place around Thea’s house.

The story is told by a third-person narrator who has access to Thea’s thoughts and feelings. Thea’s perspective might be unreliable, because she seems mentally unbalanced.

The story relies on a number of key symbols to communicate its message, especially the symbol of the cherry tree.
